Are your ideas about masculinity outdated? (Happy Father’s Day)

Happy  belated Father’s Day. Sending wishes of peace and vitality to those in the role of father and to those who feel challenged by Fathers Day for any reason.

Once again we have just passed a moment of archetypal significance. And once again, we can take time to reflect on the theme being presented to our collective consciousness. Five element theory sees the archetype of father as related to the metal element, which touches on themes of leadership, power, finances, self worth, the concept of “heaven”….

Keeping that in mind, right now is a moment to rectify, recalibrate and reclaim the idea of Father with the help of the metal element. I’m talking about:

  • Nourishing your relationship to inspiration and awe
  • Releasing that which does not nourish you from home, habits and life
  • Reclaiming the expression of yang energy in your life: directness in communication, expression of personal power…
  • Reframing your preconceived notions of “masculinity”
  • Rectifying your relationship to your finances
  • Recalibrating your sense of responsibility for others
  • Crowning yourself as royal in your life, as deserving of authority, boundaries, a voice, an amazing life…
  • Considering your role in perpetuating patriarchal systems of oppression (we ALL have a role to play here)

Is there one of these ideas that you would like to explore a bit more through meditation or journaling? I’d love to hear what comes up for you.

By the way, there is an acupuncture channel, one of the Eight Extraordinary Meridians, known for nourishing the expression of yang energy in the body, spirit and life. It’s called the Governing Vessel or Du Channel and it runs along the back midline of the body. If you’re struggling to access and express inspiration, leadership, power or to release yourself from outdated expressions of masculinity it could be a good time to receive a treatment of energy and and balance that incorporates the Du channel.
