A key concept associated with the metal element, whose season is now arriving, is integrity.
The Oxford Online Dictionary defines integrity as:
“The quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness.”
“The state of being whole and undivided.”
This reminds me of a personal story.
Years ago, I was deeply involved in a spiritual tradition that asked us to keep precepts—guiding behaviors designed to support alignment with religious or philosophical goals (think of the Ten Commandments or the Five Buddhist Precepts). For a long time, following these precepts gave me a sense of inner peace and stability.
But after many years of devotion, I had an insight that shattered the illusion that this tradition—and strict adherence to its precepts—was The Way forward for me. And suddenly, I found myself without lineage, without “spiritual community,” without precepts, and honestly, feeling a little lost.
Over time, I came to see that whether or not we belong to a lineage, a spiritual tradition or community, we are each responsible for cultivating integrity and wholeness in our own lives. And when we aren’t held by an external structure, it requires an even deeper commitment to live in alignment with our personal values.
Here we are in the season of the metal element. If the seasons could guide us, this one asks us to become more whole, to recommit to integrity, and to live in alignment with what matters most.
✨ What is YOUR personal code of conduct? What are your guiding principles for living?
If you’ve been feeling disconnected from yours, I invite you to begin by recommitting to a state of inner wholeness—starting with how you treat your body and the way you speak to yourself.
And if you’ve been feeling very adrift, acupuncture is a powerful way to realign body and spirit, so they are no longer divided. Would you like support in doing that? I invite you to schedule your first or next session opens in a new window::HERE::
