I talk about the five elements alot but a core concept in Chinese Medicine is the idea of Yin and Yang, depicted symbolically in the tai ji symbol here . On an even more basic level than whether your personality or constitution or the season you’re in is best described by one of the five elements, all of life can be understood through this spectrum of yin and yang.
The moon is yin. The sun is yang. The new moon is yin. The full moon is yang. Winter is yin. Summer is yang. Midnight is yin. Noon is yang. Sleep is yin. Awake is yang. Yoga is yin. Running is yang. Meditation is yin, but in comparison, yoga is yang (Whaaat!?!). Weekend is (often, hopefully somewhat) yin. Work is yang.
You need a balance of yin and yang in your life in order to nourish your energy, preserve your longevity and maintain a harmonious life and mood. If you’re feeling burnt out, wired and tired, depressed or anxious, it’s due to an imbalance of yin and yang in your life, work, exercise, nutrition….
What can you shift today, right now, to rebalance yin and yang in your life?
