I love the tools that Chinese Medicine offers us, not just acupuncture, but also herbs, Chinese Medicine nutrition, gua sha, cupping, qigong, even astrology and feng shui.
So, let’s dig into that toolkit. I’m talking about the fire element, visibility and Feng Shui.
The fire element, in its healthy expression, feels reasonably comfortable under some level of spotlight. Whether it’s a gathering of friends singing Happy Birthday to you, leading a meeting at work, taking on the lead role in a play, or receiving the attention of a new love interest. A balanced and healthy heart can sustain being witnessed by others. Now, there is some nuance here… We may not all feel delighted by the idea of acting and some people prefer the depth of one-on-one experiences over a big, traditional birthday party…
So let’s use the idea of visibility at work as a somewhat universal experience. If you experience anxiety and insomnia as you prepare to speak to a group of colleagues, if you love the idea of stepping into professional leadership but feel timid or if you feel like your contributions are too easily overlooked, it could be potent to address the fire element in your home feng shui.
In order to help you do that, let’s review a basic concept. Feng shui uses the bagua, a pictorial representation of the five elements, which you can see to the right.
And for simplicity, this image can be turned into a rectangular grid that is laid over a floor plan as shown, below, on the left. This is often referred to as the feng shui grid.

If you know the location of your fame and reputation area (refer to the P.S. below for instructions for how to do this on a simple floor plan) you can then ask yourself these questions:
- Is this area of my home cluttered or full of dead plants, neglected projects, things that need to go to the thrift store or broken technology?
- What simple actions would make this room feel lighter, brighter, more uplifting or inspiring?
- Do I have control over this area of my home? Who do I need to collaborate with on this space to improve the vibe or reduce clutter?
Then, get to work cleaning and clearing this area and giving it fresh energy. See how your relationship to visibility (even in your romantic relationships) starts to feel easier. I am so curious about what you discover.
Would you like to shift the flow of energy in your life and home through the technology of feng shui? In honor of summer, the fire element, and the delight of visibility, you can purchase a virtual consultation with me for a reduced price of $197 through August 30, 2025 and book these sessions in August and September. Just email me to coordinate.
P.S. There are different systems of feng shui. The one that I am trained in is known as Black Sect Buddhist Feng Shui. It places the bottom of the feng shui grid at the doorway to the house. This is super easy if your floor plan is a rectangle as shown below:

Placement of the bagua gets more complex if your home is L or U-shaped or is at an angle to the front edge of the house, for example, in a scenario like this:

If you have a unique floor plan, an excessive presence of water (faucets, water tanks…), drains, a dirty stove with malfunctioning burners or a broken fireplace in disrepair in your fame area, a consultation will be helpful for getting this sorted out. Just email me to get started.
