Your medicine is to tend to your grief

In Chinese Medicine each season brings us themes and with them an opportunity to work on them in our lives.

Autumn and the metal element offer us the opportunity to care more deeply for ourselves around grief. Whether it’s a fresh loss, lingering sadness or  just feeling more blue about the state of the world or the fading warmth and light. If you’re feeling tender or melancholy, this is not time to sweep those feelings away but rather to sit with them in self-compassionate witnessing.

The metal element is also concerned with life’s deeper meaning and is supported by activities and perspectives that nurture awe and inspiration. And, as much as we classically think of the metal element as linked to spirituality or religion, each element has its own unique relationship to or expression of these themes that transcend spiritual beliefs or identification with specific cosmologies.

If you’d like to geek out a little more, here is an old video where I discuss the five elements and spirituality:

Whether you’re navigating existential frustration, processing collective grief, or exploring how to express spirituality in a way that matches your elemental design, acupuncture can provide meaningful support.
