Today marks a Chinese Medicine moment of seasonal interest and a potent opportunity for health attunement.
For those in the Northern Hemisphere, we’re on the precipice of late summer, when your garden explodes with abundance and your neighbors benefit from the excess. This observed bounty mirrors a perspective within Chinese Medicine – the idea that late summer is ruled by the earth element, which governs food and nourishment (illustrated to the right).
There’s a second perspective (illustrated to the left) that holds the earth element as a priority at all times requiring regular recalibration and extra attention at seasonal transition moments. This view offers a more detailed lens on the same seasonal wisdom, centering the earth element as a deeply important foundation of health.
I like to hold both of these perspectives as true as an invitation to break habits of dualistic – binary, right-or-wrong thinking.
This seasonal transition will last until the metal element, with its autumnal vibes, starts to trickle in on August 7th.
The next two weeks offer a powerful window to reset your habits, your tastebuds, and your relationship to food and drink — before a misaligned lifestyle has the chance to develop into something deeper. If you sense that alcohol, sugar, dairy, or fried food have been getting too much rotation in your repertoire, now is the time to address it.
Does the idea of breaking an alcohol or sugar habit sound daunting? There’s an acupuncture protocol for supporting you in this project. Would you like support while you tackle this? You can schedule your first or next session to do that opens in a new window::HERE::
